How much does a website cost in Montreal in 2026?

An arch opening onto the sea, in black and white.

In Quebec, a brochure website usually costs between $2,000 and $10,000. An online store is more like $6,000 to $25,000, and a custom site starts at around $10,000 and often goes past $25,000. Also budget $800 to $1,500 a year for hosting, the domain and maintenance of a brochure site.

Price ranges by type of site

I don’t publish my own rates, because every project is different and a number out of context misleads more often than it helps. I’d rather show you what we see on the Quebec market in 2026.

What about a redesign? It often costs almost as much as a new site of the same type. The difference comes when you keep the structure or the content: sometimes a plan of fixes applied to the existing site is enough, without rebuilding everything.

What makes the price vary

  • The number of distinct pages. Ten blog posts on the same template cost less than ten pages each designed separately.
  • The design. An adapted theme costs less than a custom design, but will look less like you.
  • The content. Ready-made copy and photos save weeks. If they need to be created, they become a line item of their own.
  • The features. Booking, payments, a members’ area, links to your CRM: each one adds design and testing.
  • The support. Strategy upfront, onboarding, follow-up after launch.

Custom design, copywriting and integrations can each triple the cost of a project. That’s where to look when two estimates don’t look alike.

Freelancer or agency: the cost gap

In Quebec, independents most often charge between $50 and $120 an hour, agencies between $100 and $250. The gap comes mainly from overhead: offices, project management, a sales team.

The hourly rate doesn’t tell the whole story. Compare complete estimates, with the number of hours planned and what’s included.

The freelancer vs agency comparison

Fees that come back every year

  • Domain name: $10 to $50 a year.
  • Hosting: from a few dollars a month for shared hosting to several hundred for a dedicated server. On Webflow, it’s a per-site subscription, in US dollars, depending on the plan (Webflow pricing).
  • Maintenance: $300 to $1,200 a year for basic maintenance.

For a brochure site, budget between $800 and $1,500 a year in total. An example: a $5,000 site with $900 a year in fees comes to $7,700 over three years. That’s the number to compare, not just the upfront price.

Possible grants

Programs change often. The Canada Digital Adoption Program, which funded many small business websites, has ended and hasn’t been replaced.

Before signing, check with your MRC, your city’s economic development office or Investissement Québec. And apply before you start: most programs reject expenses incurred before their approval.

Getting an estimate for your project

The simplest way is to talk about it. During a first call, we go over your project together: the pages, the content, the features, the schedule. I then send you a detailed estimate, line by line.

Frequently asked questions

The questions I hear most often on a first call, with short answers.

3 questions
01

What makes the price of a website vary?

Mainly the number of distinct pages, how much custom design there is, the content to create and the features. Each one can triple the bill.

02

Are there monthly fees?

Yes: a domain name, hosting, and maintenance if you outsource it. For a brochure site, budget about $800 to $1,500 a year.

03

Are there grants for a small business website?

Sometimes, but programs change often. Check with your regional county municipality (MRC) or Investissement Québec before signing: most require you to apply before spending.
