Mélanie Suberchicot, independent UX/UI & Webflow web designer in Montreal

I’m an independent UX/UI & Webflow web designer in Montreal. I founded Lume in 2024 so I could choose my projects and follow them closely. I design and launch websites for startups, fintechs and small businesses, from UX strategy to Webflow.

My path to UX•UI

From banking to design

I started out in banking. It taught me rigour, listening, and how to see a file through from start to finish.

I then joined a company, first in customer relations, then as director of operations. There, I did a bit of everything: offers, email campaigns, landing pages, sales funnels, processes. Design and UX were already there, even if I didn’t call them that yet.

The start of my life as a designer

When I left operations, I didn’t want to join an agency or another company: I was missing freedom. In 2024, I went independent.

Today, I choose my projects and organize my own time. I do what I love most: learning, trying a bit of everything, and seeing things through.

How I work

Chosen projects, seen through to the end.

I choose my projects. On the first call, I check as much as you do that we’ll work well together, and if not, I’d rather say so right away. When I say yes, it’s to a project I can see through, and that I know I can do well.

Every project teaches me a new industry, so I take the time to really understand yours before drawing anything. Doing it well, for me, means testing every page on mobile, tablet and desktop, every form and every link before delivering. And after launch, I’m still around if a question comes up.

What my background brings

Banking and operations, before design.

Banking taught me rigour and listening. Running operations gave me the big picture: marketing, clients, processes, how an offer is built and sold. I’ve set up email campaigns, landing pages and sales funnels myself.

So when I design a website, I don’t only ask whether it looks good. I ask whether it clearly explains what you sell, and whether it helps your clients take action.

My toolbox

Every tool is there for a reason.

Figma. This is where I design mockups, prototypes and design systems. You see every screen before it’s built, and you can comment directly.

Webflow. I build my websites with it, because they’re fast, they have no plugins to maintain, and my clients can edit them themselves.

Claude Code. A coding assistant that helps me move faster on the technical side, so I keep more time for thinking.

How I use AI

It helps with the technical side, not the thinking.

I use AI to save time on the technical side, like checking code or automating repetitive tasks. Everything that takes judgment, understanding your business, choosing what to highlight, designing user flows, I do myself.

When a project calls for skills beyond mine, I bring in freelancers I enjoy working with and trust. I coordinate their work, and you keep dealing with me.
